Summary

Swollen eyes as a result of MG

  • An infection that affects chickens, turkeys, game birds, ducks, geese, pigeons and other wild birds.
  • Infection is via the upper respiratory tract or conjunctiva.
  • Incubation is 6 – 10 days.
  • Transmission can be through the egg from breeder birds or directly bird to bird through dust, feathers, faeces, aerosol and equipment.
  • Common signs: coughing, sneezing, nasal/ocular discharge, growth problems, leg problems, reduced hatchability and chick viability.
